Shimmer-scale Dragons are a very beautiful breed with small—but highly reflective—scales that shimmer and shine as the dragon moves through water. They don’t have fins or webbed feet, but their long, eel-like bodies allow them to swim quite fast. They were once rumored to carry large pearls in their claws—causing many to seek them out in search of this fabulous treasure. In reality, the “pearl” is of greater value to the dragon, for the fabled treasure is actually an egg carried by a migrating female.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Star Saber was the first of his kind to appear in Kaini's clan, and for a time, he was revered for his rarity and beauty. Soon however, the clan's two major factions began to fight over him: it was considered a great honor among the dragons to be near Star Saber, and only the most powerful were allowed in his presence.  The two faction leaders took it upon themselves to protect him, fighting over who he would stay with each night and who he would see. Their rivalry ran deep, and Star Saber was simply an object to be coveted and passed endlessly between the factions.

So before the fighting could erupt into a civil war, he disappeared... Only to reappear a time later and declare his loyalty to the human clan leader in front of both factions. Kaini was a neutral presence, never interfering with the lives of her dragons but always keeping watch. A sole few followed her alone, and Star Saber was quick to join them. He chose a mate from among them, named Eternal Reward.
