Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Comgal is a vicious, gore-hyped monster. He lives on a secluded isle shrouded by mist, and has eaten all living things on it. Since he wiped out all the native fauna, he is forced to rely on fish and seabirds for food. A few stunted, heavily burnt trees grow on the island, along with tulies, marsh grass, and cattails. Ringing his deadly abode rise the towering spires of smashed, charred ships. Not even bones remain on the island—those are eaten too, or burnt to ash.

Above the marsh rises a small hill, which is crowned by an old tower filled with arcane implements and obscure devices. These have been swept all to the side to make room for Comgal to sleep and eat. The enormous creature's heart is either dead or twisted into something less humane. Woe betide an explorer who tries to investigate the ruins—Comgal will make a good meal of them when he returns.
