Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. As soon as it hatched it headed to the sea.

And look! It lost its fins and grew wings instead. It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Ijil had nudged a few sticks together in the sand when a human came along, decided that those sticks were letters that read "Eye-jul", and then further decided to take her home as a pet amid her squeaking protests. No matter how badly she behaved or how much she insulted them, the humans wouldn't let her leave and kept hugging her and feeding her good food and trying to befriend her. Ijil eventually tired of being destructive, since it wasn't getting her anywhere, and thought about sticking around the silly nice humans until she grew up.
