Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Hidelmei is named for a protector of the night. As the world falls into slumber, he prowls and soars through the darkness, fending off whatever dangers threaten his nest mates. He is accustomed to spending peaceful moments alone, watching the stars turn above him, but with the right company, Hidelmei shows a more playful side. Nowadays he shows a sort of interest in Yumi'ko, especially when he is guarding the cave at night. It is believed a sort of telepathic link has formed, allowing him to see into her dreams—he studies her sleeping face with genuine curiosity. The two may be in constant communication, and they seem to be extremely close, but show no interest in raising a family together. They are content, and to Hidelmei, that is what matters most.
