Speckle-Throated Dragons are an active, playful breed. They are easily excited and rarely remain still, spending much of their time in the air. Living in groups of up to sixty dragons, they nest in open plains and at the bases of mountains. Their speckled throats are their most distinctive feature, as well as the loud, echoing call they produce to communicate with one another. Male Speckle-Throats have a small crest on top of their heads, which they can flush with blood to intimidate enemies and attract mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Ryniver's clan are traveling merchants, and their arrival is often long-awaited by some of the more secluded clans. Yet, despite his clan's nomadic ways, when they reached the Flamingoes' swamp something made Ryniver stay.

The swamp once possessed a certain beauty, for it flourished in the damp sunlight and wallowing stench. But as the sun's rays grew with intensity, the swamp was slowly starved of its stagnant pools that were more precious than gold. All those that had once dwelled there left, including the Flamingoes. All except one--- Rosazara. She is the reason Ryniver stays; her ferocity to protect what remains of her dying home fills him with a strange passion to do the same. His home was never a stretch of land but rather anywhere his clan was, yet Rosazara no longer has even that. She is all alone struggling to help the one place she belonged. He helped her at first only out of mercy but it has become so much more than that. That dying swamp has become his home, too.
