Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Shy and timid, Pallas Niamh was a young hatchling when she met Samothrace. During a sunny afternoon, Pallas was sunning herself on the rocks at the edge of a pond when Samothrace appeared with a friendly tail wave. Pallas was so surprised by the appearance of the adult dragon that she ran up a nearby tree and promptly fell into the pond when in her haste to escape she climbed out onto an unsteady limb.

The two have been fast friends since the incident, and it was Pallas' insistence that they take over a nearby cave for their home that led to formation of their loose family of dragons.

Due to the experience with the tree, Pallas Niamh has a strong dislike of apples, but finds the occasional swallow a tender delicacy.
