Royal Crimson Dragons are so named due to their massive size and confident, regal bearing. Most of the time they are laid back, ignoring non-prey creatures smaller than themselves, although they will occasionally take fresh kills from other dragons as a reminder of their place in the social order. Although there are few other dragons large enough to pose a threat to Royal Crimsons, they have little tolerance for potential rivals and will fiercely defend their territory from such intruders.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Evil Salt Shaker and her mate, Evil Pepper Shaker, like to kill things, and are often hired by dragons throughout the city when some unpleasant critter infests their weyrs. They are very good at their job as exterminators, though many of the other dragons are disturbed by their tendency to chant "Ex-ter-min-ate, EX-TER-MIN-ATE!" whilst on the hunt. The two are also quite active in the city's militia. They have a fierce and unexplained rivalry with Dr Whom and Wibbly Wobbley Viney Winey.

Unlike her mate, Salt loves black pepper and breathing fire. She rarely roars, and when she does the sound is weak compared to his. She whittles coffee mugs from scrap wood in her spare time.

When Argentium Hell arrived in Nworset and Salt saw the mad tinsel, Saltand her mate decided they had to help protect Hell from himself. They rather both like Hell, though most of the other dragons are at a loss as to why.
