Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

It was previously believed that purple dragons were exclusively female, but this is not the case. Recent environmental shifts have revealed the existence of both genders of this breed. Female behavior is well known; they are primarily herbivores but will eat meat during mating season. On the other hand, very little is known about the behavior and habits of male purple dragons.

The Matron of the Dust Clan, Lilac preferred once to live without a male, especially when most of the males she met were rather rude to her.  However, she does like to know the bliss of taking care of eggs and hatchlings; which is why she was named the den mother of the sanctuary.  She has insisted to take care of every new stolen egg like a surrogate.  Lilac has in fact taken care of hatchlings since Vines was an egg, thus she has often earned the nickname Mother Lilac.  As the matron of the largest clan, Lilac is also very respected.
