Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. This hatchling seems to be filled with a fell, inner flame.

And look! Its wings have grown, and it’s become bigger, more aggressive, and much hotter.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

The hatchling's owner wanted her  frozen. She did not know why her owner would betray her in such a form, but she knew that it was either flee or be forever a child. She left the cave and flew out over the treetops. She knew she had to reach the safety of her mother's cave before the ice dragon caught up with her, but as she looked behind her and saw it gaining, she knew it was futile. She braked and turned to face her enemy. It intended to freeze her, and her fire was not strong enough to resist. She saw its great jaws oven and heard it suck in a breath. The hatchling closed her eyes as the great beast exhaled its frozen breath over her. She felt herself grow colder inside, and then felt something inside her crack as the magic reached her heart and she stopped growing forever.
