Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Baldor is different from most other dragons. Instead of living a life of hoarding jewelry, he spends his time making it. He once saw a golden ring just the right size for his paws. Seeing how beautiful it was he decided that he wanted to learn to make things like it. After much practice Baldor learned to build a furnace in which he melted the gold coins he collected. From this melted gold he created rings for dragons. As he got better at it more and more dragons came to him asking for rings. Soon they were calling him "Ringmaker."

Baldor decided he didn't like being so famous so he moved to the wilderness leaving behind clues for other dragons to find him. Because of the magic used to make the clues the only people that could find him were those who looked for him out of true love for the beauty of the rings and not just greed. Those who found him were given one of his ever coveted rings.
