Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It spends its time pouncing on insects.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing. It is also now covered in brightly colored stripes.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Wind, as he is called by others, rarely if ever communicates with the dragons. He is content to sit happily in the never-ending plains he calls home and lose himself in the strange worlds of fantasy that ramble through his overactive mind. Interaction with others is physically painful for him, as whenever he is forced to speak with them telepathically his imagination virtually disappears, the voices he hears are abnormally loud, and he receives a splitting headache. Thus, he avoids even his kin as much as possible, and others avoid him, assuming that's he's simply another shy, antisocial hatchling.
