Cheese Dragons are not actually alive. They are enchanted items of food that act almost identically to dragons. They have no need to eat, but they must “live” in humid environments or they will dry out and harden.

Challie knows it is different from the other dragons, though it cannot put its finger on why. Sometimes, one of the younger hatchlings comes to play with Challie and usually ends up getting shooed away by the adults once the hatchling starts biting. Challie cannot figure out why the hatchlings should have such an urge to bite it- they certainly know better than to bite the other adult dragons in the cave!
