Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This little dragon was left outside Lady ArynChris' door by a mischievous lass nicknamed Hardwired, who was spreading good cheer under the guise of popular folk hero San Klause. He pawed and scratched at her door for many minutes unheard, until at last he let out a shrill whistle and the lock melted off. That, the lady heard!

Charmed and dismayed by turns, the well-known dragon lover took him into her home and dealt with his wanton destruction of her house, which was not quite proof against his whistle-magics. Many a time, visitors would hear a shout of, "Get down from there, you little--!" followed by a large crash. One day, a child asked just what word the crashes drowned out, and the lady turned quite pink. She replied that it was "Stinker," but the child confused the story later and thought she'd said "Pinker," which was then further confused until everyone in the village believed the dragon's name was "Penker."  This misname has stuck.
