Albino Dragons are so named because their translucent, scale-less skin lacks all pigment. Instead, to help protect their bodies from the sun, they are coated in an oily secretion that blocks the sun’s harmful rays. The call of an albino dragon is similar to a barn owl--a shriek instead of a roar.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Jirni, a spectacularly lazy albino dragon, prefers to do things on her own agenda. When she is hungry, she eats, when she is thirsty, she drinks, and when she is tired, she rests. She rarely does anything other than what she absolutely must do. Her attitude is a headache for her parents; ever since she was an egg they had been dreaming about their child's great and wonderful future. Jirni's parents named her so because they wished that one day she would go on a long journey to faraway lands, like they had always wanted to do themselves but could not. Jirni really does want to go on an adventure, but cannot seem to find the motivation. Jirni has the dream, but not the drive.
