Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Skcaro wasn't the first to wonder why he and his clanmates were constantly training in preparation for seemingly endless war, but he was the only one brave enough—or perhaps stupid enough—to actually question it. Unlike his clanmates he carried his morality like a shield and was unafraid to do what he honestly believed to be right, even if it meant going up against the most powerful dragon in his clan. Ultimately, however, his ideals were too strong. In the end, he stuck up for the "wrong" side one too many times and was forced into exile, away from his chaotic but beloved clan. He now wanders the countryside, lost and alone, for he has branded himself with the name of his clan as a way of keeping himself connected with a home he had hated but never had any intention of leaving. Occasionally in his travels he crosses paths with members of their rivals, but being recognized only reminds him just how wrong his clan was. But it doesn't make his punishment hurt any less.
