Pink Dragons are primarily herbivores and only eat meat during the mating season, when mates will exchange kills. When it is not breeding season, pink dragons spend most of their time incubating eggs and caring for their clan’s young. Due to their feminine color, it was traditionally thought that pink dragons were a strictly female breed, but this is not true.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Once upon a time, there were two magical pools uncharacteristically close to each other. This was fine until some unknown fool diverted a stream from the darkness pool into the time pool, which destabilized and caused the unnatural rift now known as the Submachines. Murtaugh was caught inside this rift as it formed except for his left foreleg, which was severed. There is no known way to leave the Submachines, but Mur has been trying unsuccessfully to find one, poking around the edges of the 'space' inside. For some time, he has focused on an area known as 'layer 8' in attempt to breach the edge, but his efforts have merely rendered the area unstable and dangerous to traverse.

When Mur comes across newcomers who have accidentally fallen into the Submachines he does his best to help orient them, and tries to recruit them into his quest to escape. Some agree to help him, but others will instead defect to helping Mur's arch-rival Liz in her similar but different quest.
