This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

When Nicolas was first turned as an egg on behalf of Jeanette he loved the feeling of being a vampire. The strength and power and the high that came after drinking blood. But after the initial rush was over he realized how the other dragons viewed him, how they judged and feared him from afar and what a monster he had become. Nicolas decided to fight his nature and now only drinks the blood of sick abandoned eggs who would die anyway or the blood of non-dragons.

This malnutrition prevents him from developing his full vampire powers and ever growing up and he has a lot of fights with his Sire LaCroix about it but he is adamant about his new way and will never give into his monstrous nature again.
