Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It loves to splash in puddles.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

This little hatchling loves to rob humans of their hard earned coins and sweets. She has developed a rather effective way to do that. She is flexible enough to hide away one of her front legs behind a wing, making it look as if she is severely crippled. Humans tend to get all mushy and teary-eyed when they see an injured hatchling and let her come close to coo over her or maybe help her. Once she is close enough, she jumps up, grabs the coin purse or food she wants with her two—very much there and healthy—forelegs before running away, leaving behind some very confused two-legged mammals.
