Black Dragons are warriors. They are strong and capable in battles of force, but also ample magic users, capable of devastating opponents with their spells. Their bright eyes give them excellent night vision, which is why they generally hunt during the night.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Silver-Stitch paid no mind to the glowing black egg in the nest. He abandoned Melody Midnight's egg so he could only keep the silver egg, heedless of his mate's pleas to keep both. Seeing this, Florivan grabbed the egg, and also three more. They hatched into Flaming Sunlight, Magician Majesty, Shining Tail Shield, and of course, Melody Midnight. Melody Midnight grew up with his egg mates (dragons who grew up together from eggs) and of course was told of how his father left him. He decided to show his father, and hatch an alt black. His mate, Golden Impurity, had much in common with Melody Midnight. She too was abandoned by her father, who kept only his gold egg. She was named after her father Golden Doomshine, and her mother Owo's father Impurity. Melody midnight will only breed with Golden Impurity until he sees a black alt dragon, and prove to his father that black's are rare too.
