Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

This magnificent creature is the lord of a vast country, and is both widely respected and widely feared. His title was gained not through inheritance, but through right; he is a wise and just ruler, and has performed many miracles for his people, not the least of which is keeping several formidable demons from the mountains at bay. However, he is not entirely free of criticism; the ruler of the lands to the east--the Lady of Mercy, Arcelia--believes that he is too swift to punish rather than forgive, and wishes he would be more tolerant of the shortcomings of his people. While this disapproval has yet to cause much tension between the nations, there are those who fear that the coolness between the two kind-hearted rulers may prove fatal, especially as the power of the demons in the southern peaks seems to grow greater and greater.
