Nebula Dragons are nocturnal creatures. With the best eyesight to be found, they are often seen staring into space. Each dragon tends to observe a particular nebula and will eventually change their colors and patterns to match it. As the nebula changes over time, the dragon changes with it. The more intricate the design of the nebula, the better chance an individual has of attracting a mate. It is said that the markings on no two Nebula Dragons will be exactly the same.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

While at first Nebula dragons in the clan are mostly made to be either a surveillance or a scout dragon, Elivra and her son Alvaro Raw Elivra are spy dragons. This was made possible by her son when he developed hypnotizing techniques that he taught her. Even though Alvaro got himself in trouble for it, that caused his species in his clan to be cursed by their own alpha magi dragon when he temporarily possessed him, Elivra doesn't hold a grudge towards him unlike other Nebula dragons in the clan. Elivra and her son now hypnotize other dragons in rival clans to win information or to cause conflict in their clan, to make up for it. And they can all do it without putting themselves at risk, letting their possessed victims do all the work, only able to do their bidding. Elivra can also use her hypnotizing techniques for interrogations. They do have limits on their power. The constant use can temporarily cause eyestrain that blinds them. This releases all of their victims from their spell.
