Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.
Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.
Nebula dragons are nocturnal creatures. With the best eyesight to be found, they are often seen staring into space. Each dragon tends to observe a particular nebula and will eventually change their colors and patterns to match it. As the nebula changes over time, the dragon changes with it. The more intricate the design of the nebula, the better chance an individual has of attracting a mate. It is said that the markings on no two Nebula dragons will be exactly the same.
Lumest is perhaps the most reserved dragon his owner keeps, doing his best not to disturb the other residents of his cave when he departs on midnight journeys. He takes care to fly quietly and is often very difficult to spot from the ground after sunset, the pattern of his wings closely matching that of the sky above. When Lumest is not sleeping during the day, he passes his time gliding through the cloudless nighttime sky and gazing up at the starry heavens, memorizing the constellations as he pieces together a cosmic map of the universe in his mind. Lumest is a romantic at heart, and hopes to one day find his perfect match depicted in the stars above him.
