Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Szyea is a bubbly male hatchling with a talent for getting into trouble. He sneaks out of the cave at night to catch fireflies and chase other insects. While Szyea is typically awake during the day, he periodically takes naps so that he will have enough energy to romp around outside after dark for a little while. He tires easily, so when he feels his eyelids get heavy, he will trudge back and sleep for the rest of the night.
