This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Soon after hatching from her infected egg, Ella Karloff was a surprisingly kind vampire dragon. She only sunk her teeth into animals instead of fellow dragons. She always shared her food and possessed many close friends. However, as time went on her personality shifted profoundly for the worst. She began to snap at all her friends, and one by one they began to disappear. Her lack of friends only angered her more, and she resorted to infecting all of the hatchlings she came across to the horror of many dragons in the cave. Today, she is avoided and lives a life of seclusion.
