Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don’t communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Sunrise dragons are closely related to sunset dragons. However, their behaviors differ greatly. Sunrise dragons prefer to live in large groups and enjoy basking in the early morning sun. They are usually most active in the morning, and go to sleep in the early evening.

Kaskzyl takes his surname from the legendary "anti-magic" stone - the Dawn Shard - in the mythos of Raithwall, following the naming pattern given by his father. However loyal he remains to his father, joining in the family's flights for exercise, he yet seems to express a reluctance, hinting that perhaps he might have had something else in mind for the day. Nevertheless, the strenuous exercise is probably what has been keeping his lithe and muscular shape. He proves sharply accurate in his movements, and shows incredible flexibility. The warrior dragons often plead for his expertise to train the young ones into the same adeptness. On rare occasion he complies.
