Shimmer-scale Dragons are a very beautiful breed with small—but highly reflective—scales that shimmer and shine as the dragon moves through water. They don’t have fins or webbed feet, but their long, eel-like bodies allow them to swim quite fast. They were once rumored to carry large pearls in their claws—causing many to seek them out in search of this fabulous treasure. In reality, the “pearl” is of greater value to the dragon, for the fabled treasure is actually an egg carried by a migrating female.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Kai Mune the first born of the monarchs of a small but powerful nation yet one would never know her royal blood simply from her appearance. Or her habits, for that matter. Kai Mune has always felt closer with the dragons she is to one day rule -- the lowly serfs and peasants -- than the regal lords and knights that her parents associate themselves with. She outwardly complains of the stiffness and ceremony of court life, but in truth she simply has a deep appreciation for hard work. She does understand that the life of a ruler is far from being as easy as it looks, but then a farmer's responsibilities only stretch as far as his fields. In the dark she often entertains herself with the idea of running away to the country as soon as she comes of age to be crowned, but she is unsure if she will ever find the courage to actually carry out her plan. She has seen and loved her people too much to betray them like that.
