Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. This hatchling is hard to see, but in the sunlight it displays brilliant colors.

And look! Its wings have grown large enough that it can now fly. It hardly ever leaves the air now.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Lance of Conviction helps out her larger sister, Virtue of Conviction, on a daily basis. Her job is simple enough, she rides on the Virtue's back, whispering in her ear, "remember: thou art mortal." In that way she reminds the Virtue that, even though she feels in her heart what she must do, other dragons still have the strength of their opinions, and of their own convictions, and even Conviction needs to respect that.

Lance enjoys her off time as much as any dragon, but doesn't get much due to her sister's intense devotion to the law. Her other function, performed almost as frequently, is to remind Conviction that, though she feel the need to keep going, even she must rest at times.
