Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Its eyes glow brightly at night, and it enjoys attacking insects and small animals.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

An Unfortunate Dorkface's name was a blending of both his parents' names. Why she was named that...perhaps it is better explained.

The poor lass, oddly enough, likes to run around in circles and chase her tail, as well as play minor pranks on her elders. She never mastered the language of dragons and when spoken to, usually answers with a "Hurr". The other dragons in the cave say that she was born "touched" and for the most part endure her pranks with equanimity. The other hatchlings -would- terrorize the lass but well, the Guardian-folk won't allow it. To terrorize An Unfortunate Dorkface would mean the foolish dragonet in question will have to spend months keeping An Unfortunate Dorkface's scales clean, which is difficult to do since most of her pranks involve mud.
