Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. You find it odd that the hatchling doesn’t move at all during the day, but at night its colors change and it is full of energy.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Rintia, as one of only two female dragons in the Junior Nocturne Guards, often feels decidedly outnumbered, and being the shyest and quietest of the lot doesn't exactly help matters.  Even Nimendef and Aafcien occasionally overlook her, to their chagrin, so Rintia is, to her relief, rarely sent out on patrol.  She's so timid that every noise becomes something lurking in the shadows just waiting to pounce, so she prefers to spend her nights surrounded by other dragons.  Rintia has a special affinity for pygmy dragons, something which has not gone unnoticed by Aafcien, and she might find herself eventually appointed their unofficial protector.
