Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Makes your eyes water's oil is slightly different from the oil of other Turpentines. Sadly enough, this small difference is enough to cause an allergy with the clan's caretaker, Herk. The human loved the little dragon too much, though, to abandon her because of this problem. Instead Makes was frozen at a young age, so she wouldn't produce too much of the allergen and can stay, causing Herk only slight inconvenience.
