Dorsal Dragons are so named because they have large fins along their backs that can be raised and lowered at will. They use these fins to regulate body temperature; they raise them to cool off when they become overheated. The bright colors on the fins double as a means of attracting mates.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In a dragon village not far from Draco's lair lived a little boy dragon. Walking home one day, he dropped his ball and it rolled into a dark ally. As soon as he grabbed his ball, he turned to leave when something tapped him on his shoulder. When he looked around no one was there. The next day the same thing happened, but this time under the dragon slide. Tired of the tricks he asked who was there. From his shadow popped up a dragon. That day the two dragons became best friends and the boy called this dragon Goast Shadow for he moved like a shadow and used this talent to scare dragons just like a ghost.
