Magi Dragons are, as their name suggests, primarily magic users. They rarely use physical forms of attack. They eat anything they can kill, which is almost everything. They won’t kill unprovoked except when hunting, although they may kill humans if in danger. Their strong magic makes them one of the most feared breeds of dragons.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Two of Jadal's siblings were happy to leave their elder brother in peace, but Treacherous Mystic had a malicious streak that wouldn't allow her to let Ordinary Weyr live up to its name. She began by making a point during her infrequent visits of exclaiming how miraculous it was that Jadal was doing so well after so many close calls, and how she wished she had a fraction of his impossible good fortune. That in itself wouldn't be so bad, no matter how insincere her tone, except that she kept dropping vague hints about how she had foreseen possible trouble. When Jadal seemed to be getting used to that, she had two misfit pygmy eggs delivered to the weyr, so that her brother might always be that little bit off balance. The last straw was when she let something particularly nasty slip while Joru was listening. Though normally peaceful, the guardian made sure Treacherous Mystic would never try to return.
