Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. Ever since it hatched, the sky has been full of very dark clouds.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing. It’s learned to use its new wings quickly and you now have a hard time keeping it on the ground.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

No one is certain why Mekelya stopped growing: some think he was cursed, others find it more likely that he chose to remain small so that he could easily pounce on their tails without being seen. He inherited a double dose of mischief from his mother and a moody disposition (and sensitive eyes) from his father. Mekelya's favorite thing in the world to do is gather gloomy clouds around him and then play tricks on other dragons while they are preparing for a storm. He tends to sulk if no one laughs at his antics, though he quickly recovers when a new scheme comes into his head.
