Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon. It sleeps a lot, but when it’s awake, it’s quite a handful.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Roly loves to be tossed around like a ball by the other dragons. He usually instigates a game of 'Toss the Hatchie' and "wheee"s while they toss him back and forth. He hates it when Secret Agent, "that grumpy old grouch", puts an end to his fun, making the adults ashamed for acting so irresponsibly with a hatchie's well-being. A few of the older dragons love playing 'Toss the Hatchie' as well and they seek Roly out whenever they can. Together they search for the most out-of-the way places in Kanaye's cave to play, just so it would take the sharp-eyed purple longer to stop their games.
