Hen is a dragon. Or at least, she thinks she is, and none of the real dragons at Gravensteen Castle have the heart to tell her otherwise. They talked about it amongst themselves, and decided that since hens have a life span of under a decade, they might as well let her live out her fantasy within her short life.
Of course, she may be right, in which case she'll still be around in a thousand years and they will be eating their words. (If they can resist eating the juicy chicken for that long.)
