Aww... It’s a cute baby dragon.

And look! It has grown wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Three tinsel hatchlings frolic and play the whole day long, all gleaming like newly-minted coins and all very different.  Coppercoin, the youngest, is the undisputed leader—Siokli is too cowardly and Silvercoin too docile to protest.  Vain and self-centered, he loves having two companions to praise his brilliance and follow his every whim, and he delights in coming up with elaborate and often dangerous games for the three of them to play.  Coppercoin is also a bully, and enjoys provoking meek Siokli to tears.
