Gold dragons are the ones most often killed by humans, who consider their scales to be extremely valuable. These golden scales grant them a high level of protection, similar to armor, and they use this to their advantage in battle.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Once upon a time, there was a noble madam known as Lady Xythus.  She was not, however, at all satisfied with her station, and spent as much time as possible out in the hills and meadows studying and mingling amongst the wild beasts, leaving the running and care of her estate to her steward.  One of these days spent out-of-doors, Lady ArynChris and her troupe of dancing seasonal dragons happened upon her, and Lady Xythus expressed her wish to escape her human life and live as such a grand, majestic, --and most of all, free-- creature as a dragon.  Lady ArynChris, secretly the guise of a goddess, granted the wish and turned Lady Xythus into a rare and magnificent golden dragon, the only nod to Xythus' previous station in life.  Xythus now lives free as a wild beast, happier all the more because she remembers the life that she escaped.
