So when he heard of a Kwikspell course that would be able to teach him, naturally he sent over a pigeon with his stash of gold coins and received a bag of powerful mana crystals and an instruction booklet in return. His wife and daughters tried to warn him that Mint dragons can't do magic, but his life-long desire was too strong. Skipping all the boring household spells, the first thing he wanted to try was to create fire. Well, he did, but something in the combination of mana crystals went terribly wrong: a massive explosion followed, taking down half the cave with him.
