This hatchling appears to be... dead?

Perhaps not. It seems to be active during the night.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. They are born with relatively soft scales, which are shed and replaced with harder ones as the hatchling matures. Once a hatchling’s wings grow in, it typically marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are often capable of hunting on their own and are usually left alone by their mother.

Skull of Shinbone was discovered on a rocky cliff, called Shinbone by the locals, overlooking a deep and dark lake and was brought to the cave. On the sheer face of the cliff is an actual "face" made up of small caverns swarming with bats. The face resembles a human skull. Inside amongst the bats, Skull of Shinbone was found dozing away, living off of the bats that flitted over his head. After this dragon was brought to the cave, he kept his seclusion and simply found a crevice in the craggy walls of the cave to sleep day in and day out.
