Lumina Dragons received their names from their highly reflective scales, which—at times—seem to glow. They are vain, always strutting about and preening incessantly; if one of their scales has so much as a scratch or a defect, they’ll remove it. Luckily, their scales grow back quickly, and each new growth is more beautiful than the last. These narcissistic dragons live in small groups and prefer to surround themselves with beauty. The females guard their territory and eggs while the males search for vegetation to eat.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

Pekeia is a flawless specimen of a Lumina: she has no mark to blemish her appearance, no dissymmetry that strains the eye. This hasn't been that way forever, in her youth she had several marks—more than were acceptable in a Lumina. But then she heard about a lake in the mountains with the power to take any blemish and any defect away.

After visiting that lake Pekeia's whole life changed, where she was bullied or made fun of before, now every Lumina wanted to be her friend. But on the other hand, she lost all her non-Lumina friends, since they didn't recognize her without the distinct cleft in her chin, or the mark on her right foreclaw. After several months Pekeia decided she wanted her old self back, but the only way to achieve that would be a second visit to the lake. And the guard of the lake forbids anyone a second visit...
