Pink Dragons are primarily herbivores and only eat meat during the mating season, when mates will exchange kills. When it is not breeding season, pink dragons spend most of their time incubating eggs and caring for their clan’s young. Due to their feminine color, it was traditionally thought that pink dragons were a strictly female breed, but this is not true.

Dragons are highly-intelligent reptilian creatures that—from a human perspective, at least—appear to live forever. Many different varieties of dragon exist, each with their own unique qualities, habitats, and behavior. Adolescence in dragons is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling’s wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. In Galsreim, dragons and humans coexist peacefully.

When von Lacier's egg was laid, his parents were so proud that they took it to show their master. Von Lacier thought they gave him away because they didn't love him. The master looked the egg over and was so proud of it that he took it back to the cave so that another dragon master could adopt this special egg. Von Lacier thought he was not good enough to keep. Other dragon masters looked at the egg, but for one reason or another, passed it by. Von Lacier's heart leaped with hope each time, only to be disappointed and hurt each time. Finally, raindear saw the egg, and that it was perfect, but by this time von Lacier's hurts had formed a small, hard, icy knot inside him that nothing can melt. He spends his days looking to the other dragons and raindear for the love he feels has been denied him, and is unable to see or feel it, no matter the amount of affection they shower on him. The cold, icy knot always prevents his realizing how much he is loved.
