Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling's wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.
Dragons don't communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.
Skywing dragons spend most of their lives flying in the air. They hunt from the air, diving at prey from above, and land only to rest. They are some of the fastest fliers, capable of extremely high speeds. The webbing at the end of the tail acts as a rudder, allowing them to easily change direction during flight.
Below is an excerpt from 'Uruloki Record Book' by dragonologist Ms. Anannsul:
Dragon: Yacora
Details: Female Skywing, Body-Cyan; Wings-Dodger Blue, 48 ft long, 18 ft high
Date: October 7th, 2008
Location: Lema Valley, 5 days ride west of the caves
Time: 20 minutes past 8 at night
Weather Conditions: Very Cold
Observations: I've been following a Skywing dragon whose name I've been told is Yacora. From my recent observations she frequently visits this valley. My guess would be because of the wind speed rushing through past the wall of mountains on either side. Her behavior, so far, is unlike her mate's. Her interactions with the other dragons of this area are not very friendly. She has a rather short temper and is very easily aggravated. I also noticed that she is stingy with her findings. I decided to fly a kite as added proof of this observation. As guessed, she quickly dove at it snatching it up before the other dragons could and flew off into the distance.
