Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling's wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don't communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Horse dragons have equine-shaped bodies and hooves instead of claws, which allow them to be fast runners. They specialize in running takeoffs, which are quicker than taking off from a stand-still. Horse dragons are able to stalk their prey from the ground then quickly execute an aerial attack for the kill.

The Mare of the Night is a very calm dragon who was first born dragon and developed before all of her family. She only lets her master ride her. The dragon prefers living on land instead of flying in air and has a very luxurious mane and tail which her owner painstakingly combs everyday. Originally, she was nicknamed Night-Mare because as a hatchling, she was unable to control her abilities. It brought bad dreams and fears to various living things, but her understanding and kind master helped her overcome those obstacles. She is now a happy dragon who is willing to sacrifice herself for her loving owner.
