Young dragons are relatively defenseless. Their scales don't grow in until right before they mature, and they have almost no strength. Once a hatchling's wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are usually left alone by their mother and begin to hunt and survive on their own.

Insulted by his name, Sumer Breeze refused to grow into an adult who could potentially be a father of dragons one day. You see, those offspring might become embarrassed at having a father with such a name, so Sumer decided to not allow that to ever happen by not having ANY offspring. After all, he is a young dragon, not an long-gone civilization.
