Aww... It's a cute baby dragon. It has brightly colored fins on its back.
And look! It's grown its wings! It must be close to maturing.
Young dragons are relatively defenseless. Their scales don't grow in until right before they mature, and they have almost no strength. Once a hatchling's wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are usually left alone by their mother and begin to hunt and survive on their own.
Rexaar is a feisty young member of Silvora's cave. His dark coloring allows him to blend right into the shadows of the cave, his red eyes watching for an unsuspecting hatchling to happen by. What happens next is a subtle crouch, the wriggling of his rear-end, and the pounce of a mighty hunter. Or, that would be the plan, anyway. Rexaar is not the mightiest of hunters by far. His victim often sees or hears him coming and moves out of the way, leaving him to a rough landing on the stone floor. Occasionally he will make a successful pounce, which doesn't end much better, and usually leaves him with a sizable bruise on that hard head of his. It would seem that he is better off stalking insects until he gets bigger.
