Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling's wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don't communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

White dragons are pacifists and specialize in extremely strong healing magic. The only limit of this magic is that it can't bring back the dead. They only eat plants and never kill living things.

Pactolus had been abandoned to the wild, but thanks to the compassion of a human, his egg was saved and tended to. The old man passed away only a few years into Pactolus's hatchlinghood, but he'd given Pactolus a chance, and the white dragon never forgot it. He survived to adulthood, scrounging the forest for plants and relying on his inherent magic to keep himself alive. Once he was self-sufficient, he became a traveling healer in order to pay back the kindness he owed his life to. During his travels he met Rinbyoutou of the Kyokos Vale, and through him was introduced to the magi dragon's daughter, Toushakai. Love bloomed between the pair, and together they decided to patrol the northern wildlands. The human settlements in that region are small and poor, separated by great distances and the monsters lurking in the mountains. While Toushakai hunts the beasts, Pactolus spreads hope by tending to the sick and bringing gifts to supplement the limited food supply during the harsh winters.
