Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling's wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.
Dragons don't communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.
Nocturne dragons are a strange breed. Whenever light strikes their bodies, they are frozen in whatever position they were in. This leaves them vulnerable and they rely on camouflage to keep themselves safe. They are often mistaken for statues when in this frozen state, but Nocturne dragons do not actually turn into stone. Rather, they merely idle until the sun goes down. At night, these dragons come to life, proving themselves to be powerful fliers, although little else is known about their true behavior.
A fierce hunter, a loyal warrior, and a fearsome enemy, Nyte Shadow is respected among all who know him. Being a nocturne dragon, he is active only at night, and rests in shadows all day, making him vulnerable to attack. Because of this, he has befriended Zenithia, a sunset dragon, who hides in the morning and midday shadows with Nyte and protects him in the evening; in return, Nyte protects her in the midnight and early morning hours. They have formed a strong friendship and have become a pair of formidable warriors who no dragon would dare cross alone.
