Name: MarilloDragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Hatchlings spend a relatively long period of time as hatchlings, from 100 to 200 years, before they mature. Adolescence is usually marked by a hatchling's wings growing in, but not all breeds of dragons grow wings. Baby dragons all look very similar, but once they hit adolescence, they change very fast, they mature to their full forms in only 2 years.
Dragons don't communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.
Every guardian dragon has a large shield on the end of their tail. Although the shields appear to be heavy, they are light, yet nearly unbreakable. Guardian dragons use their tail-shields, as well as their wings, to deflect attacks and protect others. Often, they will guard the eggs and hatchlings of a nest while others are away. They are generally peaceful, and will not retaliate unless necessary. They have no need to forage or hunt, as they are fed by those they protect.
Mar is tall dragon with a very mature personality. He often looks at the star constellations, trying his best to find and name all of them. Mar is very interested in nature, odd rock formations, and the stars. You can find him in a tree, maybe on a mountain, watching for shooting stars, and graphs them on scraps of scrolls that may have been discarded. Mostly, though, he'll talk to Cochitika, his mate, about the sky, they both seem to be interested in the same thing.
