Dragons are creatures with nearly unlimited life spans. They can survive for long periods of time, and no one has found a dragon that has died of old age. Adolescence is usually marked by the growth of a hatchling's wings, although not all breeds of dragons grow wings and some breeds have other traits that indicate the beginning of maturation. Once they hit adolescence, hatchlings change quickly, maturing to their full forms in only 2 years.

Dragons don't communicate with each other verbally, but they will growl to scare off predators and frighten prey. Young dragons will emit an extremely high-pitched squeal when they are frightened. To communicate, they use telepathy with each other and to speak to other creatures.

Sunset dragons are closely related to sunrise dragons. However, their behaviors differ greatly. Sunset dragons generally live alone or in small packs. They are more active in the evening, hunting and performing all of their daily tasks as the sun sets.

Mangharibi means "time of sunset" in Swahili. She lives isolated from her clan until sunset, during which, she goes out hunting. Not many dragons or humans know much about her, and the ones who do, don't speak of her. She is very relaxed but occasionally she draws away in depression. She allows humans to approach her and pet her; if they do she pretends to pay no attention to them. As you draw near her you see many scars and healed gashes. It becomes clear to you that her previous owner had beaten her. You and her exchange long glances. With her eyes, she tells you not to tell anyone. You stroke her lovingly and with an intent glance, you affirm that you won't.
