And look! It's grown its wings! It must be close to maturing.

Young dragons are relatively defenseless. Their scales don't grow in until right before they mature, and they have almost no strength. Once a hatchling's wings grow in, it marks the beginning of maturation. At this point they are usually left alone by their mother and begin to hunt and survive on their own.

Kurokyuu is an older brother to Nightray. With just a moment away from death he was saved by the freezing spell, but now is cursed to never mature and have children. At night he mourns for his twin brother Cerbes who was always very sickly,even from the old days when he was just an egg. He's now become very protective over his younger sister Nightray and the unborn dragons, trying to prevent them from sharing the same fate with Cerbes.
